What is the difference between Black Nickel plating and Black Dye plating?

Dyed metal finishes open up a number of different options for artworks. By dying the metal we can simplify both the number of colors and cavities required to finish a given piece. Perhaps its biggest benefit is the ability to create a true black finish on the metal.

Because of the polishing, the same flat black, or other dyed metal options are not available for hard enamel. Instead if the client desires to have black metal for hard enamel it must be done through black nickel plating.

The ‘Black Nickel’ name is a bit deceiving. At certain angles it appears to be a true shiny black, in others it looks more silvery grey. When chosen with the correct art, a black nickel hard enamel piece can look spectacular.
